Since your microwave oven is an appliance that you’re probably using every day, it’s bound to get unclean and dirty over time. It doesn’t matter what kind; cheap microwave ovens and expensive ones both need regular cleaning.

Unfortunately, conventional methods to clean microwaves may take a while and with our busy lifestyles, we can’t put in that much time.

Luckily, there are simple, DIY ways to clean your oven within a few minutes. Here are a few:

Method #1 – Wet Paper Towels

Things you’ll need:

This super quick method basically requires you to:

  • Grab a bunch of wet paper towels (kitchen tissues)
  • Place them in the microwave and run it for 3-4 minutes
  • Wait as the steam from the towels loosens the food particles
  • Unplug the power wire
  • Use the tissues to clean the interior once they cool down

Method #2 – Lemon Juice

Things you’ll need:

  • Your Orient microwave oven
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 microwave safe plate
  • 1 knife
  • Paper towels
  • Water

Here’s what to do:

  • Cut a lemon in half with a sharp knife
  • Place the two halves – face down – in a microwave safe plate
  • Add a tablespoon of water to the plate
  • Run the oven for a minute to make it steamy
  • Unplug the power cord
  • Clean with tissue papers

Method #3 – Dishwashing Soap

Things you’ll need:

  • Your Orient microwave oven
  • Dishwashing soap
  • Baking soda
  • 1 microwave safe bowl
  • Sponge
  • Water

Follow these steps:

  • Warm up some water and put it into a microwave safe bowl
  • Mix in a good amount of dishwashing soap
  • Place the bowl in the oven and set the timer for 1 – 1.5 minutes
  • Once it begins to steam, take the bowl out (wear safety oven gloves)
  • Unplug the cord from the switch
  • Wipe out the oven with the sponge

Method #4 – Vinegar and Water

Things you’ll need:

  • White vinegar
  • Water
  • Microwave safe bowl
  • Oven gloves
  • Kitchen tissues
  • Toothpick/wooden spoon

Do the following:

  • Fill the bowl with equal parts vinegar and water (3/4th cup of each)
  • Place the toothpick or wooden spoon in the bowl (keeps the liquid from overheating)
  • Put the bowl in the oven and run it for 5 minutes
  • Take the bowl out with your oven gloves on
  • Unplug the oven’s cord
  • Clean with the kitchen tissues

Despite the fact that all these methods are super quick and easy it’s still better to not let the junk pile up in your microwave.

Here’s How to Keep Up with Your Microwave Cleaning

Apply these cleaning tips to your everyday microwave use to avoid a mess when cleaning day finally arrives:

Try to Avoid Spills

You’d want to either cover your utensil with a paper towel or a clean cloth so that anything that spills over does not get on the microwave. Also, food particles tend to pop when they’re heating so covering up your bowl will keep the oven clean.

Do a Daily Wipe-down

After an entire day of use, it’s always best to do a quick wipe down of your microwave oven because even though it looks clean – it isn’t. A daily cleaning session means you won’t have to scrub as much when it’s time for an intense cleanup session.
